Summerhome Park Revegetation Project
The project site is located in a dense riparian forest along the lower Russian River. The Russian River supports populations of Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, and steelhead trout, all federally listed as endangered or threatened. This project is designed to remove the invasive and non-native understory plants from a section of the riparian corridor. The non-native and invasive vegetation to be removed consists of Himalayan blackberry, blue periwinkle, English ivy, and giant reed.
Subsequent to non-native invasive vegetation removal, native understory species will be planted in 2009-2010, including snowberry, spicebush, California wild-rose, basket sedge, sword fern, and flowering currant. Some native riparian trees will also be installed.
Funding for this project is provided by the California Department of Water Resources and Beringer Vineyards.
